Chideock to Abbotsbury

I decided that I could manage a whole day's walk today so I left the car in the car park at our B&B and set out with Julia and Kevin at 9am. A fine drizzle was falling so we donned our rain coats and ignored the rain. The first couple of hills were tough so we decided to try the shingle from Eype to West Bay - officially not the SW Coast Path route...... It was tough going and we had to scramble over boulders to get up onto the prom at West Bay but we fortified ourselves with a coffee Before heading up,the steep hill to the golf course, where I thought of my dear friend Chas who used to play there.  We descended to the beach at Burton Bradstock and decided to try the shingle again - much longer stretch but slightly easier walking and I was a little nervous of getting cut off by the incoming tide but, in reality, we had about an hour to spare. The route then got much easier though still with areas of shingle.

We all longed to arrive at West Bexington for some lunch but it was probably the worst cafe we have ever been in.  You could have any sandwich, so long as it was with cheese......any bread so long as it was white sliced and Kevin could not drink his coffee at all!

The walk into Abbotsbury was uneventful and we arrived at 3:30, booked into our fantastic suite in Abbey House, with our rooms overlooking the ruined abbey and a bathroom with which even Kevin was delighted!

I left them sampling a bottle of house wine while I stood outside in the cold and drizzle waiting for a taxi to take me back to Chideock to collect the car.  The taxi firm

had promised to be there in 20 minutes but it took the driver 45, then I had to endure his non-stop natter, natter, natter, all the way back to Chideock! When I got back to the B&B almost 2 hours later Julia was relaxing in the bath with a glass of wine and Kevin was playing on his iPad, also with a glass of wine - and they had not saved me any!!!!!

No tea in bed for them tomorrow!!!

We went out to The Swan for a mediocre evening meal and we are all now ready for bed!
